Spring is without a doubt my favourite season, new beginnings, sweet scents from freshly bloomed flowers, vivid sceneries reborn, my birthday, only to name a few. Let’s face it, the list of all things wonderful about spring can go on and on, however this also means the time where I have to fix all the shitty damage winter has caused to my skin.
Regardless of how hard I tried to smother my face in every product that contained the words “Hydrate” or “Oil” on it, I still somehow managed to fail. Usually my skin would normalise on it’s own by December. But this year I decided to jumpstart things and with the following 3 serums I managed to get my skin soft and hydrated by mid October.
I am pretty sure all three these serums would work individually, but I was desperate so I went to the extremes. If your skin is not as bad, or if you only have one problematic area that needs to be targeted one of these three serums would be sure to sort you out.
Africology Vitamin Skin Booster Serum 30ml – R322.50
This was my “Morning” serum, and everyday of September I applied it religiously after my morning moisturiser. It is the perfect “Spring Mode” serum as the Vitamin C and Sweet Orange Oil added that dash of Citrus scent giving you that instant fresh and revived feel. The Sweet Orange Oil is what greatly reduced the redness of my skin as it has anti-inflammatory qualities and soothes dry and irritated skin. The Vitamin A assisted with cell exfoliation which promotes collagen and reduces new and healthy skin cells. Yup. After Winter this was heaven sent. Get it here
Clarins HydraQuench Intensive Serum 30ml – R645.00
Introducing my “Ride or Die” Serum. This is my ultimate Holy Grail in Serums, which doesn’t surprise me as Clarins usually Kick’s Ass in this category of skincare. Above and beyond that, the HydraQuench Range is also by far one of my favourite Clarins ranges, the serum, the mask and the Moisturiser are all fantastic products with hardly any downfalls.
The price is steep but definitely worth the splurge as it as been with me since March, all throughout winter, up and till now with about 70% left. Yes – This was my “Night” and Sometimes “Day” serum. This is an EXTREMELY light but SUPER Hydrating serum. Containing 5 active ingredients that ensure long-lasting moisture, reinforcement of the skin surface to prevent dehydration and restoring and stimulating hydration, radiance and natural moisture.
You understand why I am so obsessed. Plus this bottle will be sure to last a good 18months so the price is completely justifiable as it only costs you R35 per month.
Avon Nutra-Effects Miracle Glow – R199.95
More of a Facial Oil but also a serum, the Avon Nutra-Effects Miracle Glow Lightweight Facial oil as become a new best friend. Besides being super affordable even when it’s not on sale, this is also really effective. Containing oils such as Green Coffee seed oil which aids in boosting protein to assist in skin hydration and Babassu Seed Oil which increases collagen this was a skin saver from the moment I set my hands on it.
I used this on the day’s when my skin was at it’s worse. I applied it after my Day Cream just before my makeup on the day’s when my skin was as dry as it could possibly get, so this saved me from my foundation going on patch and looking all cakey. It absorbs pretty fast and leaves the skin looking dewy. Hence being lightweight, it isn’t to oily for spring, however I find myself mostly using this at night, during pamper sessions, after a good steam and exfoliate.
Between these three products I managed to get my skin pretty balanced after the stressful winter I have been through. I still use all three these products actively and interchangeably during Spring and will most likely continue to do so during summer.
Have you tried any of these serums or do you have your own secret skin savers?
